Atlassian Data Center End of Life: What You Need to Know
Atlassian Data Center end of life is now underway for impacted products. Jira Software Data Center, Jira Service Management Data Center, Confluence Data Center, Crowd Data Center and associated Marketplace apps are scheduled to reach end of life on March 28, 2029.
But there is an important exception: Bitbucket Data Center and Bamboo Data Center are not ending in 2029. Atlassian plans to continue them through a new Bitbucket Hybrid License, which will combine access to Bitbucket Data Center, Bamboo Data Center and Bitbucket Cloud for eligible existing customers.
As of October 2026, one major milestone has already passed: new customers can no longer purchase impacted Data Center products or associated Data Center Marketplace apps. Existing customers still have time to plan, migrate or expand before the next deadlines.

What Does Atlassian Data Center End of Life Mean?
For impacted products, Atlassian’s current Data Center end-of-life policy says subscriptions and associated Marketplace apps will expire on March 28, 2029 at 23:59 PST.
At that point, affected Data Center products and apps become read-only unless a customer qualifies for an exception or another Atlassian-supported arrangement.
The affected product list includes:
- Jira Software Data Center;
- Jira Service Management Data Center;
- Confluence Data Center;
- Crowd Data Center;
- Data Center mobile apps;
- Atlassian Data Center apps;
- third-party Marketplace apps for those affected Data Center products.
Bitbucket Data Center, Bamboo Data Center and Jira Align Data Center are not part of that main end-of-life list.
The Atlassian Data Center End-of-Life Timeline

Atlassian says it will continue providing technical support, critical security fixes and Cloud/Data Center connectors for impacted Data Center products through March 28, 2029.
Atlassian also says some customers with exceptional requirements may be able to obtain extended maintenance beyond 2029, but this is by exception rather than the standard path.
Why Atlassian Is Making This Change
Atlassian has been clear that its long-term strategy is centred on cloud.
Its Data Center end-of-life announcement points to cloud as the platform where Atlassian is concentrating future innovation, including AI, new platform capabilities and new deployment options.
For most Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management and Crowd Data Center customers, the long-term direction is therefore a move to Atlassian Cloud.
That does not mean every customer needs to migrate immediately. It does mean organisations should now treat migration planning as a current programme of work rather than something to leave until 2028 or 2029.
What About Bitbucket Data Center?
This is where the picture is very different.
Atlassian has explicitly confirmed that Bitbucket Data Center and Bamboo Data Center will continue beyond March 28, 2029.
Atlassian’s current Bitbucket Hybrid License guidance says eligible existing Bitbucket and Bamboo Data Center or Server customers will be able to move to a single subscription covering:
- Bitbucket Data Center;
- Bamboo Data Center;
- Bitbucket Cloud with Pipelines.
Atlassian currently says that offer is expected to become available in early 2027.
Existing Bitbucket and Bamboo Data Center licenses remain available until March 28, 2029. After that date, Atlassian says Bitbucket and Bamboo Data Center will be sold through the Bitbucket Hybrid License.
That means Bitbucket customers do not face the same “move off Data Center by 2029” requirement as Jira or Confluence customers.
What Happens to Bitbucket Data Center Marketplace Apps?
Bitbucket Data Center apps have a specific exception too.
Atlassian’s guidance for Marketplace Partners says Bitbucket Data Center apps are exempt from the wider Data Center app end-of-life timeline and can continue to be available and supported in the Atlassian Marketplace.

That is useful flexibility: Bitbucket customers can continue self-managing source code where they need to, explore Cloud at their own pace, and still have a migration path when Cloud becomes the right choice.
What This Means for Jira, Confluence and JSM Data Center Customers
For customers on impacted products, the timeline is now much more concrete.
If you are an existing customer, you can still renew and—until March 30, 2028—purchase new impacted Data Center products, Marketplace apps or license expansions.
But those purchases do not change the end date: impacted Data Center subscriptions are still moving toward March 28, 2029.
A practical planning question is therefore no longer:
“Will we eventually need to move?”
It is:
“What needs to be migrated, replaced, redesigned or retired before our current Data Center operating model stops being viable?”
What This Means for Marketplace Apps
Marketplace apps should be reviewed as part of the migration programme, not after the core products have already been moved.
For affected Data Center products, Atlassian’s current Marketplace guidance says:
- new Data Center apps can no longer be submitted to Marketplace;
- new customers can no longer buy associated Data Center apps;
- existing customers can continue buying new affected Data Center apps and expansions until March 30, 2028;
- affected Data Center app licenses expire with the broader Data Center end of life in 2029.
Atlassian also notes that individual Marketplace Partners are not required to continue selling an affected Data Center app all the way to 2028, so customers should verify the roadmap of each critical vendor rather than assuming every app will remain available until the final Atlassian deadline.
For any business-critical app, check:
- whether a Cloud version exists;
- whether the Cloud version provides the capabilities you actually use today;
- whether configuration or data can be migrated;
- whether the vendor has published its own Data Center roadmap;
- whether you will need a replacement workflow rather than a one-for-one app migration.
How to Prepare Now
If you are using an impacted Atlassian Data Center product today, there is still time—but the first sales milestone has already passed.
A sensible next-step plan is:
- Inventory your Data Center estate. Record products, Marketplace apps, integrations, customisations, data volumes and owners.
- Separate Bitbucket/Bamboo from the rest. Their long-term path is different from Jira, Confluence, JSM and Crowd.
- Identify critical Marketplace dependencies. Do not assume every Data Center app has a functionally equivalent Cloud version.
- Review Cloud gaps early. Identify security, compliance, data residency, integration or workflow requirements that need to be solved before migration.
- Engage vendors and Solution Partners. Migration often involves process redesign as much as product migration.
- Plan around the 2028 purchasing deadline, not only the 2029 EOL date. March 30, 2028 is the point at which existing customers lose important purchasing and expansion options for affected Data Center products and apps.
Atlassian recommends starting the cloud assessment early, particularly for large or complex environments.
Bottom Line
The Atlassian Data Center end of life is not one single event affecting every product in the same way.
For Jira Software, Jira Service Management, Confluence, Crowd and their affected Marketplace apps, the direction is clear: the standard Data Center path ends on March 28, 2029, with purchasing restrictions already underway.
For Bitbucket and Bamboo, the strategy is different. They remain part of Atlassian’s self-managed future, with the Bitbucket Hybrid License intended to bridge Data Center and Cloud rather than force a full migration by 2029.
If you use both categories of product, the most important thing is to avoid treating them as one migration problem.
Your Jira/Confluence roadmap and your Bitbucket roadmap may now need to be different.
